About
WELCOME ABOARD!
Just over an hour north of the Hayward area, enjoy the beautiful Lake Superior scenery and the magnificent beaches of Madeline Island. Our ferries connect Bayfield and Madeline Island. Walk, bicycle, or drive on deck for the 20 minute trip between ports. While traveling across the water, you will experience breath-taking beauty and magnificent views, both of the lake itself and several of the Apostle Islands.
The ferry ride itself is just the beginning of your island adventure. Once the boat docks, Madeline Island offers a variety of water- and land-based activities. Rent a kayak or canoe and explore Big Bay lagoon. Charter a sail or power boat and see the whole Apostle Island area.
On land, the Madeline Island Museum takes you through 300+ years of island history with interactive exhibits as well as a video slide show. The downtown area has wonderful galleries and shops to meander through along with restaurants serving food and drinks with local flare.
The beach at Big Bay (7 miles from the Island ferry dock) is 2 miles long for beach-combing, swimming, or picnicking. Hiking on the Capser Trail gets you into the woods for brilliant sights and sounds. Stop and pick up a FREE CD for a self-guided driving tour.
During the summer months, we offer FREE island walking tours (M-F 10:30 & 1:30, 1-hour long) and on Wednesdays a tour of the ferry boat (10:30).
