Name: Project RED Training: Riverine Early Detectors
Date: June 13, 2014
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Wisconsin's rivers are vulnerable to invasion by a number of invasive species from Eurasian milfoil to Japanese knotweed. The key to successfully protecting your river is detecting invasives early when it is still possible to isolate or eradicate the infestation. The longer we wait to find them and fight them, the more money and time it will take. Volunteers are invaluable for early detection, and you can help! During this free training we will teach you to monitor by canoe, kayak, or on foot for 16 species of concern, and choose locations and monitoring schedules. Meet at the Cable Natural History Museum at 9:00 a.m. for a classroom session on AIS identification, and then go out in the afternoon to practice monitoring skills. Return by 4:00 pm. Register by calling the Museum at 715-798-3890 by June 4th. FREE!
