Name: Loon Population Survey
Date: July 18, 2015
Time: 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM CDT
Event Description:
Every five years since 1985, LoonWatch has conducted a one-day loon survey on a pre-selected group of lakes to estimate the size and distribution of Wisconsin's Common Loon population. This information is then used to estimate the number of breeding adults and the number of chicks produced. Over time, the survey tells us the trend in the state's loon population-whether it is stable, increasing or declining. Join Cable Natural History Museum Naturalist Emily Stone for a canoe-powered loon counting session at North Twin Lake east of Cable. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at North Twin Lake and finish by 10:00 a.m. Register by July 17 by calling 715-798-3890. There will be a rain date on July 25, if needed.
