There will be no Hayward Inline Race in 2010. After an enjoyable and successful four-year run, race directors Dave, Darlene and Heather Prois have decided to end the event.
''We'd like to apply our enthusiasm and energy to develop events to challenge a broader range of athletes,'' said Dave.
The inaugural Hayward Inline Marathon was organized in 2006 by Heather as part of her masters degree studies in sports management. She is now senior fitness coordinator at the YMCA of Minneapolis. Dave and Darlene took over many race responsibilities after moving to Hayward in 2007.
''We're thankful for the strong support we received from skaters, from the local governing agencies and especially from Fred Scheer and the entire Hayward business community,'' Dave said. ''And we couldn't have asked for a better group of volunteers.''
The Hayward Inline Races quickly became a favorite of inline skaters, regionally and nationally.
''We put on the type of race we'd like to attend,'' said Dave. ''We offered a beautiful course, lots of prizes and fun for people of all abilities, and ended with a great lunch and entertainment. We're proud of what we accomplished.''
