Program Details: Our spring 2016 ExporTech? program is designed to help Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin small to mid-sized manufacturers grow through successful export sales. ExporTech is the only national export assistance program that offers a structured, yet customizable process that guides companies through every aspect of export growth. At the completion of the program, each company will have developed its own international growth plan and accelerated their export sales process. Meet the Museum?s live education raptors in person! Our birds cannot be released into the wild due to permanent injuries, but they are able to teach you all about the amazing world of raptors. Please come early to find a seat. Donations accepted.

Wednesday, May 11 Pastels: Painting Spring & Summer Landscapes with Diana Randolph Celebrate the seasons of spring and summer by painting landscapes using pastel sticks (not oil pastels) on paper. Use your own photos as inspiration, and explore the Museum?s new exhibit on phenology (the timing of seasonal events). Your instructor will demonstrate pastel painting techniques on a variety of papers. This class is for all levels, though basic drawing experience is helpful. 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Museum. Participants may bring a sack lunch, or lunch may be ordered from the Brick House Café. There is a supply list for this class. To register please call WITC at 715-682-4591, ext. 3170. *

The Hayward Farmer's Market will be having a winter indoor market on the second Saturday of every month, November through May at the Northern Lakes Cabin Stop in Hayward.  

Saturday, May 14 Wild Edibles with Joan Joan Jacobowski has been foraging for a major part of her diet for over 40 years. She will share tips for safe harvesting, including: identification, contamination, look-alikes, sustainable harvest, and allergic reactions. You?ll learn to identify, harvest, and prepare five common plants; gain hands-on experience; and taste test a variety of wild edibles. A light lunch will be provided. Meet at the Museum from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Space is limited. Call 715-798-3890 to register by May 11. $20 member/$25 non-member.*

Saturday, May 14 International Migratory Bird Day Join Naturalist/Curator Elsa Hansen, and at least one of the Museum?s education raptors to learn about amazing bird migration journeys that happen ever year. Thursday, May 19 Birding in the National Forest Hike trails in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in search of birds. See blackburnian warblers and scarlet tanagers. Walk through a northern hardwood forest, and skirt the edge of a bog and wetland. Meet at the Museum at 7:15 a.m. and return by 11:00 a.m. Space is limited. Registration is required by May 18. Call 715-798-3890 to register. Cost is $5 member/$10 non-member. No charge if you are a registered Chequamegon Bay Birding and Nature Festival participant.

Saturday, May 28 Cable Natural History Museum Plant Sale Benefit Event Help support the Cable Natural History Museum and its programs! Museum volunteers will be selling native plants?primarily those attracting pollinators?and annual, perennial and vegetable plants in the Museum?s Outdoor Classroom from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Members-only pre-sale starts at 9:00 a.m.! Go to www.cablemuseum.org for the plant list or call the Museum 715-798-3890 for more information. Sale will continue during our regular hours until the Garden Fest on June 18.

The 2016 exhibit will take you on a journey through the seasonal changes in the Northwoods through the use of dioramas. Flying owls, hibernating bears, colorful mushrooms and more will tell the story of phenology: the study of when specific events happen in nature from year to year in a specific place. Timing is everything. Stop by the Museum to celebrate and learn more between 10:00 AM and noon. Refreshments will be served. Donations accepted.
