Wednesday, May 11 Pastels: Painting Spring & Summer Landscapes with Diana Randolph Celebrate the seasons of spring and summer by painting landscapes using pastel sticks (not oil pastels) on paper. Use your own photos as inspiration, and explore the Museum?s new exhibit on phenology (the timing of seasonal events). Your instructor will demonstrate pastel painting techniques on a variety of papers. This class is for all levels, though basic drawing experience is helpful. 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Museum. Saturday, May 14 Wild Edibles with Joan Joan Jacobowski has been foraging for a major part of her diet for over 40 years. She will share tips for safe harvesting, including: identification, contamination, look-alikes, sustainable harvest, and allergic reactions. You?ll learn to identify, harvest, and prepare five common plants; gain hands-on experience; and taste test a variety of wild edibles. A light lunch will be provided. May 19 Birding in the NAtional Forest
Thursday, May 19 Birding in the National Forest Hike trails in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in search of birds. See blackburnian warblers and scarlet tanagers. Walk through a northern hardwood forest, and skirt the edge of a bog and wetland. Meet at the Museum at 7:15 a.m. and return by 11:00 a.m. Space is limited. Registration is required by May 18. May 28 Exhibit Open House: Nature's Calendar: Signs of the Seasons
The 2016 exhibit will take you on a journey through the seasonal changes in the Northwoods through the use of dioramas. Flying owls, hibernating bears, colorful mushrooms and more will tell the story of phenology: the study of when specific events happen in nature from year to year in a specific place. Timing is everything. Stop by the Museum to celebrate and learn more between 10:00 AM and noon. Refreshments will be served. Donations accepted.
