Join Cable Natural History Museum Naturalist Emily Stone on a four-day adventure in her favorite place on Earth. Learn about the unique natural history of the border country as you paddle and portage lightweight Kevlar canoes into moosey lakes with great fishing, beautiful vistas, and intriguing bays. You can gain the skills to plan your own voyage, or just enjoy the company of like-minded people on this partially outfitted trip. Space is limited. Are you busy with the races? Drop off your kids, grades K-6, for a fun-filled day of games, hiking, crafts and stories at the Museum. Early drop-off is available starting at 8:00 a.m. All children should arrive by 9:00 a.m. and must be picked up by 4:00 p.m. Please call if you need additional accommodations. A simple lunch and snacks will be provided. Register by September 15. $75 member/$80 non-member.

Sep 23 Drawing and Exploring: Nature and Museum Specimens
Venture outside on the grounds of the Museum and draw close-ups of the natural world that beckons you. We?ll also explore a variety of the Museum?s fascinating collections, such as animals, birds and insects. There will be a guest appearance by Aldo, an American Kestrel who we?ll sketch quickly, using gesture drawing. During class, Museum Naturalist/Curator Elsa Hansen will talk about scientific illustration and its uses. Diana Randolph will demonstrate various black & white drawing techniques using pencil, charcoal pencil and ink in the morning. In the afternoon, Diana will demonstrate color techniques using color pencil, and watercolor pencil. Meet at the Museum from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. You may bring a sack lunch or lunch may be ordered in class from the Brick House Cafe. Register by September 16. A supply list will be mailed or emailed to those who register. $35 member/$40 non-member.

Sep 25 Tour the Forest Lodge National Historic District
Take a guided tour for a rare opportunity to walk the grounds, visit the iconic Guest House, and see the renovation of the summer home of Mary Griggs Burke, founder of the Cable Natural History Museum. This tour will be led by Ellsworth Brown, Ph.d. - Director, Wisconsin Historical Society; Jason Maloney - Forest Lodge Team Leader, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest; and Shaun Hamilton - Director, Northwoods Initiative - The Trust for Public Land. Meet at the Forest Lodge Nature Trail at 3:00 p.m., return by 5:00 p.m. Please dress for the weather and wear walking shoes. Space is limited to 30 people. Register by September 24.
