Mar 3 Ski-By Tree ID (Adult Naturalist Program)
Join Naturalist Emily Stone at the North End warming hut at 2:00 p.m. for a quick workshop on winter tree identification. Then strap on your skis for a fun competition! Participants can skate or stride the 5k A-Loop while stopping to identify marked trees along the way. Back at the warming hut, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies while we wait for everyone to finish. Answers will be checked, and prizes will be given! Finish by 5:00 p.m. Brought to you in partnership with the North End Ski Club. Register by March 2. $5 member/$10 non-member.

Mar 7 Snowshoe Adventure on the Hayward Library Trails
Join Naturalist Emily Stone for an easy adventure at the Hayward Library Trails. Learn about winter tree ID, animal tracking, birds, and anything else you?re curious about! Dress for the weather. Meet at 10:30 a.m. in front of the library. Register by March 6, and reserve snowshoes (if needed) by calling the Cable Natural History Museum 715-798-3890. Join us on Thursday, March 19, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center auditorium in Ashland, WI, to enjoy great films, win great raffle prizes, and support the Cable Natural History Museum?s snowshoe programs. Join Naturalist Emily Stone for a moderately strenuous adventure in the Fairyland State Natural Area at Forest Lodge. Explore enchanted haunts on the former estate of Museum founder Mary Griggs Burke while experiencing and learning about the magic of nature. Be prepared for off-trail explorations. Dress for the weather. Families welcome. Meet at 10:00 a.m., 10 miles east of Cable. Call ahead by March 20, for directions and to register. Snowshoes are available to borrow by calling ahead. Dinner Lecture: The Amazing Properties of Birch Bark with Dr. Pavel Krasutsky (Adult Naturalist Program) Northwoods explorers already know that birch bark is amazing stuff. Did you know that it is also being researched for applications such as: pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and the prevention and treatment of cancer, HIV, and other human pathogens? Dr. Pavel Krasutsky is director of the Chemical Extractives Program at the Natural Resources Research Institute in Duluth, MN. He will share amazing discoveries from 15 years of birch bark research. Join us at 5:30 p.m. at the Rookery Pub. You may also join us for dinner and conversation after the presentation. Mar 28 Night Owls at the NGLVC
Owls are expert nocturnal hunters. Learn more about these mysterious creatures, and meet a live Great Horned Owl. We will also dissect real owl pellets, and explore hands-on specimens such as feathers, skulls, wings, and feet. Join us at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland, WI.
